Joseph Pairin Kitingan remains party leader until Parliament and Sabah Assembly end their terms.
PRESS STATEMENT Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Deputy President Maximus Jonity Ongkili will take over as acting party president with immediate effect.
PBS Secretary General Johnny Mositun said in a statement on Friday that the decision was made at the request of President Joseph Pairin Kitingan who chaired the party’s Supreme Council Meeting in the Sabah capital.
Pairin will remain PBS President until the end of the current Parliament and the Sabah Assembly, added Mositun who is also a Sabah Deputy Speaker. “He will continue to carry out his ministerial duties and NGO work until the end of the term.”
Ongkili, who is also Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, will oversee all party matters, including the management of divisions, branches and the party headquarters. “This is part of the preparatory step in the succession plan of the party,” explained Mositun.
Pairin urged party leaders, during his address to the Supreme Council, to cooperate, stay united and work hard, disclosed Mositun. “The party president wants all to help strengthen the party and ensure Barisan Nasional (BN) emerges victorious in the next General Election.”
